Every dog deserves safety, care, and a chance to begin again.

Rusty’s Legacy Dog Rescue provides that chance for all of the unloved dogs: the abused dogs, abandoned dogs, neglected dogs, unwanted litters, injured strays, dogs with nowhere else to go. 

As the only licensed dog rescue in McDowell County, we rescue hundreds of dogs each year. We provide food, safe shelter, veterinary care, vaccinations, heartworm prevention and treatment, spay and neuter services, transportation, and placement into loving homes.

We also work to address the root of our community’s animal overpopulation crisis by helping dogs get spayed and neutered—preventing more unwanted litters and reducing the number of dogs entering shelters and rescues.

But we cannot continue this work without donations. We are funded entirely by community support. 

Every day, more dogs arrive needing care. Some require routine vaccinations and sterilization. Others come to us sick, injured, malnourished, or heartworm-positive and need months of medical treatment before they can be adopted. No matter what they need or how long it takes, we remain committed to giving them the care they deserve.
