Eight years ago, the McDowell News ran a front-page story titled “No Surrender” when Jeri Arledge, founder of Rusty’s Legacy, began her fight against head and neck cancer.
Today, she is facing that fight again—this time with breast cancer.
Jeri has spent years pouring her heart, time, and resources into saving the dogs of McDowell County. She has shown up for the most vulnerable, the forgotten, and the unwanted—day after day, year after year.
Now, she needs time to focus on her own fight.
Rusty’s Legacy will pause intake for the month of April while Jeri undergoes surgery and begins radiation treatment, with hopes to resume normal operations in May.
But while intake may pause… the needs of the rescue do not.
There are still dogs in care.
There are still medical bills.
There are still daily expenses.
