Our Mission
Rusty's Legacy: Saving Dogs, Promoting Spay and Neuter, and Building a No-Kill Community
We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs from North Carolina high-kill shelters, particularly in McDowell County, where we focus on saving stray and endangered canines. Our mission includes promoting spay and neuter initiatives to work towards establishing a no-kill community and advocating for stronger animal welfare laws. Established in 2009, Rusty's Legacy is a state-licensed McDowell County animal shelter, inspected by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, making it the only licensed rescue in McDowell County.
We are a registered 501c3.
