About Us

Our Mission

Rusty's Legacy: Saving Dogs, Promoting Spay and Neuter, and Building a No-Kill Community 

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs from high-kill shelters in western North Carolina, saving stray and endangered canines, and promoting spay and neuter initiatives to work towards a no-kill community. Established in 2009, Rusty's Legacy is a State licensed animal shelter inspected by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, making it the only licensed rescue in McDowell County.
